Here we have outlined what it takes to to create a finished pewter casting.
We start with the original piece either provided by the customer or sculpted by Jeff Valent Studios as per the customers design. We call this piece the "GREEN" (even if it is not green) because 90% of what we mold is sculpted from Green Stuff Putty, an epoxy putty that can withstand the vulcanization process.
From this GREEN we have to make a MASTER MOLD. The MASTER MOLD is used to create pewter masters from which we can create a PRODUCTION MOLD. During the master molding process sometimes the green is damaged or destroyed. This is not a large concern as the most important thing is getting a good cavity in the MASTER MOLD to produce the METAL MASTERS.
The METAL MASTERS are cast, cleaned and preped for the PRODUCTION MOLD. Great care is taken to ensure they are perfect for the production molding process. From these METAL MASTERS many, many PRODUCTION MOLDS can be made ensuring the piece can remain in production for a long time.
We make as many PRODUCTION MOLDS for each piece as required by the size of the casting run from each customer. Typically if a customers initial order is 500 pieces or less only one PRODUCTION MOLD is required. We look at each job individually to determine the optimum number of molds for each job.
From the PRODUCTION MOLDS we make the castings the will be delivered to the customer in what ever form/finish they desire. Because the PRODUCTION MOLDS have multiple cavities of the same piece, each spin of the mold gives us 10-12 castings on average.
We offer many different finishes from hand finishing to electro-plating if this is required for your design.

All resin casting jobs are quoted on an individual basis by volume of the finished piece.

We require no minimum orders on any items.

Master molding costs $50 per mold cavity in the master mold. This includes pouring and preparing the required number of metal masters for production molding. This may vary up or down depending on the complexity or simplicity of the piece so always ask us for a quote.
Production Molds cost $60 each and a production mold is required for each item to be produced. Several small items can be "sprued" together to form one piece and would only require one Production Mold.
The cost per piece is based on the final weight of each piece. We will provide you with an accurate estimate based on your provided artwork and adjust the price after the metal masters are cast and can be weighed.
Because of the specific requirements of each job regarding packaging we quote this on an individual basis.

There will be certain circumstances that are not covered by any of the above items that will need to be billed at an hourly rate. Our normal hourly rate is $50.00 per hour. Additionally, if blocks of ten hours or more are purchased in advance on a monthly basis, we will discount the rate to $30.00 per hour.
All castings are created from LEAD FREE PEWTER ALLOYS
Master Molds are never sent out of the shop and remain the property of JVS. If you wish to have your mold cavity destroyed for copyright protection we will do so and provide digital photographs of the destroyed cavity for proof.
Production molds that need to be sent out to another caster for casting or if
you wish to have the production mold sent to you for any reason will require an
additional $25 fee.
